Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)

Since 1 October 2008, it has been a legal requirement for all landlords to have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for their property in order to lease it.

What is an EPC?

An EPC assesses the energy efficiency of a property and gives it a rating from A (most energy efficient) to G (least energy efficient). It must be carried out by a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor and is accompanied by a recommendation report that details measures that can be undertaken in order to improve the energy rating.

How often do I need to renew an EPC?

A valid EPC will last for 10 years and can be used for multiple tenancies within that period.
